During the half term I watched Al Jazeera and made a lot of notes on them, I was really impressed by their coverage of events. I found large discrepencies in what they report and what mainstream media reports. I’ve also recorded an episode of Fox’s “No-Spin Zone” I’ve started watching and a general news piece from Fox, just one day after Al Jazeera piece I studied. I also found a new independent channel that cropped up recently called ECG, with shows like InfoMania and MatrixNews, reporting a lot of interesting news no-one else covers.

Latest research: David Beckham possible loan back to Europe on Loan to AC Milan. I’ve been trying to look at how the media are portraying this and possibly building things up to more than what they are. I have also been looking at Ashley Cole’s relationship, and how they’re trying to get back on track, through the eyes of the media by looking at magazines such as ‘Heat’ and ‘ok’.

During half term I continued my pursuit for extended knowledge of ‘Politics in the media’ by taking a trip to Chicago, which is home of American election winner Barack Obama. I also took the time to take a bus through the neighbourhood in which he grew up & voted in November ’08 (Hyde Park). One thing I noticed and kind of disappointed by was the fact that there was little advertisement of the election campaign. But the small amount which was on the street, was all pro Obama. When I watched the local television there was no bias expressed about the election, both candidates had equal coverage.

I have conducted a number of questionnaires in which I found out that many people would rather watch the media that is free and wont hold back information although they do understand the reasoning behind holding things back from the people.

As I am doing world cinema and have most of my secondary research already gathered together, all that is left for me to do it watch The Ring and Ringu myself a few more times. I also need to get my self-selected audience to watch the two films and fill out my questionnaire. As of yet I have 3 filled out, and now I am back at school will continue my primary research.
Throughout my secondary research I have mainly used the websites www.movie-gazette.com and Wikipedia. I am doing Asian cinema so I have also been researching cultural differences to further my understanding of the originals and note the changes made by the directors.

I have conducted a questionnaire to my target audience, aiming to find out what their feelings are towards crime presented in the media, and also answering the question as to see if they feel media can influence crime such as videogames.
I have got my target audience to play two video games of a violent nature, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Condemned. They felt that Condemned was more of a horror and as it was in first person, this scared them. You also tend to shoot zombies, which is unrealistic. They do not feel that this game would influence crime unless the player felt that using a gun is enjoyable.
They felt that Grand Theft Auto glorified crime as the main purpose is to kill people and steal cars or drugs. They felt the game was enjoyable, realising how the fun of killing on a game can be transferred to real life.

I have been watching many “Crime” television programmes as I am trying to see how policing television dramas have changed over a series of time. To get different opinions and views I have got an episode of “Ashes to Ashes” and have played it to my target audience. We all seemed to share the same views, that the character “keely Hawks” is depicted as a sexual object and not treated as equally as the men in the force.

Over the half term I have finished collecting data from the questionnaire and I am starting to analyse the information. By the end of next week I hope to have done an analysis of BBC news and ITN news and compare the two. I am in the process of finding an article from 2 website to analyse and compare, however this I proving to be difficult as I am having trouble finding the same story on two websites that are good to compare, many of the articles are very similar and hard to compare.

I agree Craig. The bear approached him at such speed he didn't quite know what hit him. I am surprised they managed to recognise him after the attack.

The main thing I miss is his cheery attitude to everything in life & his dedication to animal rites campaigns.
I miss you big boy :'(

Oh & craig you ment witty?

Whats up homeslices?

In my research topic of politics and the media, I have been analysing how the military is portrayed via the use of media and the government. I have looked at how methods such as propaganda are used to influence opinions and how certain stories about the military are blacked out from the population by keeping the news companies in the dark.

People might find this news article interesting if you’re looking at how the government is influencing the media, especially if you’re looking at current issues such as oil prices and the conflict in the gulf. The site is……
http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north648.html

But mostly I have been using Wikipedia.org to help my research, with has proved most helpful on my analysis on propaganda during major conflicts such as World Wars 1 and 2 and recent conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq.

Peace out! Homies

For my research I have made two case studies for Macintosh and Fanta. My Macintosh caser study focuses on how advertisements have changed overtime. With my Fanta case study I looked at an advert, there website and how they are embracing new media technology especially with web 2.0.
I have also made a questionnaire that focused in on my question and the case studies. This helped me gain outside information and views on my topic question 'How advertising has changed overtime and embracing new media technology?'

I will now make sub-questions for my case studies that relate to my topic question. This is so I can get the most out of my research.
